Danny's Surgery Update

I'm Julie's Mom and I'm writing on her behalf.  Julie doesn't have access to the internet in the hospital right now, so she's been calling with updates.

Danny was taken into surgery at 8 a.m. as planned, but was soon returned to his room because one of the nurses had not showed up.  At that point, it was unsure whether surgery might have to be postponed until tomorrow.  At 9:30 another nurse was found and Danny was taken back into surgery.  It took two hours to prep him for surgery, to connect him to all the machines, etc.  At 11:40 a.m. Victor and Julie saw the surgeon, Dr. Palacios, enter the operating room.

At 2 p.m. the assistant surgeon reported to Victor and Julie that Dr. Palacios says that Danny's heart function is even more complicated than they had thought.  The pre-surgery tests were not able to reveal as much as actually seeing the heart does.  While Danny is in surgery, a heart pump is keeping him alive.  The most critical time will be when they remove the heart pump and see if his heart will resume functioning on its own.  The entire blood flow of the heart has been changed, so it's not certain how the heart will respond, if it can handle the change in pressure, if the sutures hold, etc.

At 4:30 the assistant surgeon reported that the first main procedure is completed and the second procedure is beginning. We appreciate so much your continued prayers.  May God be glorified!
